EMERGENCY EXIT PROCEDURE & EVACUATION PLAN
1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this Emergency Exit Plan is to ensure the safe and orderly evacuation of all:
- Clients
- Staff
- Visitors
- Volunteers
during emergencies such as fire, violence, medical incidents, or natural disasters.
2. OBJECTIVES
- Protect life and prevent injury
- Ensure rapid evacuation
- Reduce panic during emergencies
- Provide clear staff responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with safety regulations
3. TYPES OF EMERGENCIES COVERED
✅ Fire outbreak
✅ Gas leak or smoke hazard
✅ Building structural risk
✅ Violence or security threat
✅ Medical emergency
✅ Natural disaster
✅ Electrical hazard
4. EMERGENCY EXIT RULES
All persons must:
- Remain calm.
- Stop all activities immediately.
- Follow staff instructions.
- Use nearest marked exit.
- Do NOT run or push.
- Do NOT use elevators.
- Proceed to assembly point.
5. EMERGENCY EXIT ROUTES
Each Neftaly Programme Site must have:
- Clearly marked EXIT signs
- Unlocked emergency doors
- Obstruction-free pathways
- Illuminated escape routes
Exit Route Requirements
- Minimum two exits where possible
- Visible directional signage
- Accessible exit for persons with disabilities
6. EVACUATION RESPONSIBILITIES
Programme Manager
- Overall evacuation command
- Liaison with emergency services
Safety Officer / Supervisor
- Activate evacuation procedure
- Ensure all rooms cleared
Staff Members
- Guide clients safely
- Assist vulnerable persons
- Close doors behind when exiting
Reception / Administrator
- Carry attendance register
- Account for visitors
7. ASSISTING VULNERABLE PERSONS
Priority evacuation must be given to:
- Children
- Elderly persons
- Persons with disabilities
- Trauma-affected clients
- Injured individuals
Assigned staff must assist them to safety.
8. ASSEMBLY POINT

10. FIRE EMERGENCY PROCEDURE
- Raise alarm immediately.
- Call emergency services.

- Contact SAPS immediately.
